August 2010

Featured Wedding: Kate and Matt

Congratulations to Kate and Matt!

They were married at the beautiful Solitude Resort up Big Cottonwood Canyon on August 14, 2010.  They held their reception at an adorable bistro called Kimi's Bistro.  It was the first time I've been to Kimi's Bistro, and I can't wait to go back sometime and have lunch or dinner and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.  The views and sights are breathtaking.  What an amazing place to have your wedding!

When Kate and I met to discuss her wedding cake, she wanted to do something on the cake that would tie in with her gorgeous wedding dress that had a beautiful pleated fabric design with a sparkling brooch, which if you can't tell by looking at some of my cake photos, I'm kinda obsessed with brooches, so this was right up my alley!

Cake Truffles

What is a cake truffle?  I get asked this a lot.  Once you taste one, you'll be hooked.  They are a little ball of heaven, that's what they are.  Cake truffles are simply cake and buttercream mixed together, rolled into a truffle-sized ball, and then dipped in either dark chocolate ganache or white chocolate ganache.  You can then add toppings or decoration.  I make them in pretty much any of my flavors.  A favorite is key lime coconut dipped in white chocolate ganache and topped with shredded coconut on top.  They're a really fun item to add to your dessert bars at your wedding or event.  The are even better when kept cold, like in the freezer cold.  They just taste even better that way.  This past weekend I did a bunch of chocolate caramel truffles dipped in dark chocolate ganache and toffee crunch bits on top as well as the key lime coconut flavor that is always a hit.

Featured Wedding Cake: Myles and Haley

Congratulations to Myles and Haley!  They got married in a gorgeous outdoor ceremony in Logan on August 14, 2010.  It's one of the few weddings I've been able to attend myself and provide the cake for.  Myles happens to be my cousin, so I was invited to the wedding!  Haley brought me an absolutely gorgeous photo of a cake from a magazine she'd seen.  It was full of custom lace appliques overlapping each other.  We wanted to be inspired by the design but not copy it outright and put Haley and Myles' vintage wedding style spin on the cake.

Joining the blogging world!

I've been meaning to start a blog for a long time now, but I've always been intimidated.  I know nothing about blogging, but I figure I'll eventually get the hang of things, right?  You gotta start somewhere!  I'll be using my blog to feature some of my upcoming cake projects, past favorite cake designs, and anything else cake related!
